The man didn't let it stop him until almost the end.

There is really no point in my adding to the enormous bandwidth being devoted towards Steve Jobs today.  It is a testament to his remarkable life that so many are stopping and reflecting (at least the bi-coastal intellectual elite of which I am a proud member).
He reminded me of my cousin Marc.  He died of liver disease a few years ago.  He was on a waiting list for a second liver transplant, having survived about 10 years with the first.  The guy never let it stop him.  He was basically ill his entire life, but he kept on going, doing what he wanted.  He was a successful attorney and raised two beautiful daughters.  I remember he came to our grandfathers funeral with a heplok and a fever, having left the hospital because he wasn't about to miss such an important family event.  Not only was he there, but he kibitzed in grand style.
Steve Jobs was very sick for many years before he died.  He continued to produce and follow his passion in life.  This to me is even more remarkable then his stunning achievements in technology. Even though I stand in awe and gratitude for the incredibly great run he had, I am humbled by his fortitude in the face of illness.  To be well when you don't feel well is very hard.  When I am sick, I sink emotionally, intellectually and socially.  The man didn't let it stop him until almost the end.  This is courage my friends.
