Terms of Endearment

I wondered aloud about this the other day, and now: Al Jazeera to the rescue (again).
An astute point here is that technocratic governments are not elected. They are appointed to implement "painful" austerity measures, to satisfy the IMF, or The Banks in general. Funny, aint it? The people vote for one thing, and get another. In order to ensure that they incur no losses, the elite mandate that the social safety net be eliminated and that anything the government owns be privatized, e.g. given to them at fire sale prices. These "painful austerity measures" are, not surprisingly, hugely unpopular. Fortunately, there is an easy solution: toss democracy aside! Easily done, no?
